Class Offerings

This summer ACS will be offering courses to meet the needs of students ranging from Kindergarten up to incoming 8th graders. Minimum students required per class, but space is limited.

Kindergarten Readiness

M-F 8am-12pm

Kindergarten Readiness is a program designed to prepare your child for Kindergarten. This program focuses on children’s emotional and developmental needs with blocks designed to teach them to line up, raise their hands and tame their wiggle worm. Beginning Literacy, Phonics and Math skills are also focused on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are set aside for developmental growth. Children will have a chance to expand their descriptive and expressive language through interactive sensory play. For children planning to attend Arcadia Christian School, they will be offered an opportunity to adapt to the campus on a much smaller scale. Kindergarten Readiness is a summer half-day program so no homework will be given, but helpful handouts will be given out weekly to equip caregivers with useful information on how to support their soon to be Kindergartner. (Students entering Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten accepted.)

First and Second Grade (English and Math)

M-F 8am-12pm

In this course students will be given the necessary tools in order to hit developmental benchmarks that will allow them to be ready for the next school year.  We will spend time reviewing and building upon foundational skills in reading and mathematics. Differentiated instruction will be used to meet the needs of all learners. A leveled math block will provide students with the opportunity to move forward in their learning path by strengthening skills from the previous year or by moving on to new skills for the upcoming grade level. Research based practices will guide reading instruction insuring that each student shows growth and feels successful. Students will be given the option to show their understanding of the material in various ways including but not limited to; benchmarks, pre and post assessments, informal assessments, hands on projects, daily classwork, and collaborative group work.

Third through Fifth Grade (English and Math)

M-F 8am-12pm

This course is designed to allow students to brush up on their reading, writing and math skills to prepare them for the rigors of the following school year. Students will be exposed to a variety of reading genres. They will learn different strategies to help them deepen their comprehension and vocabulary. Students will also have an opportunity to strengthen their writing skills and be grouped according to their abilities. There will also be a designated time for math instruction where there will be differentiated instruction.  Students will also be grouped according to their math level and have the opportunity to either move ahead on learning their math concepts or fill in the gaps from the previous year.

Sixth - Eighth Grade English and Speech Communications

M-F 8am-12pm

This summer join us on our literary journey as our aspiring young readers and writers travel through time and space as we analyze characters, setting and plot through watching short movie clips, writing their own reviews and creating their own stories. We'll be exploring reading and writing through questions we have about science and history.  Students will inquire and research to find their answers through experiments and write about their findings. Students will also review the fundamentals of essay writing and grammar through differentiated instruction.  They will also learn to delve into discussions about books, have in class debates, and collaborate on group projects.  This class will prepare your child for the rigors of the next academic year, but in an interactive and dynamic way.
